The term "bah-giw" is widely believed to be the progenitor of the name Baguio.

It means "moss" in the Ibaloi dialect, and was used to describe this place where mosses grew all year-round.

There was nothing but swamps and forests and a few native huts when the Spaniards reached this territory on stormy weather. With the rain and mud all over, they called it "Baguio" which turned out to mean "typhoon."

Panagbenga 2008 Flower Festival

Panagbenga, which started in 1995, is one of the most successful festivals in the Philippines. It is celebrated during the month of February, when the City of Flowers is in full bloom with activities highlighted by a street dancing competition and float parade. It also includes landscape competitions, art exhibits, golf tournaments, flea markets, the Session in Bloom, and lots of other activities.
